How does the philosopher John Locke connect to Freemasonry?
Q. As I look at the philosophies John Locke set forth and the beliefs of the Freemasons, I sense a connection but cannot quite put my finger on it. Can someone tell me if there is any connection they know of?

A. This link that you speak of has much to do with the time line of botht he modern day Fraternities influence and the eara that Locke lived in and his insperation on the world. The age was called "Enlightenment", and many of his beliefs on liberity, the self and reflection are congruant with symbols and allegories of Freemasonry. Locke himself may have been a Freemason, though the weak proof is based upon a letter he wrote. He was a member of the Royal Society, many of who's members also shared the distinction of being Freemasons. Some of his contempories and friends were members of the Fraternity, Robert Boyle for one.
